Is Remote Control Access to Your
Parking Area as Secure as You Think?

Remote control transmitters can be deceiving.

Remote control over the door or gate looks secure – but it is not.  The weakness is in the wireless technology used for most remote controls.  Believe it or not, new cars come equipped with a system that can learn and transmit the security codes used by wireless garage-door openers.  It's a convenience feature that saves the car owner having to use a remote in the future.  But for the owners of multi-tenant or commercial parking facilities, it's the equivalent of a robot "hacker" in the car.  The system is just as capable of learning from the remotes they provide to tenants.

Add this to the long-standing problem of "code grabbing" (intercepting and cloning your codes) by malicious intruders, and you face multiple risks: vehicle theft or damage, the potential for personal injury to tenants and customers, and financial loss if parking fees are part of a facility's revenue stream.

What can be done to solve this technology problem?  We believe there's only one right answer: better technology.

Technology Solutions to Technology Problems - PINs That Cannot be "Cloned"

For commercial and multi-tenant facilities, Access Controls provides remote control transmitters with a microchip containing a unique Personal Identification Number that cannot be "learned" by a vehicle's built-in transmitter or be intercepted by code-grabbing equipment.  As part of a computer-based access control system (such as the ECS System from ACI), the receiver verifies that the signal comes from one of the PINs in its database before signaling the door or gate to open.  The result is absolute assurance that only original transmitters provided to authorized users can provide entry to the parking area.
